New members sworn in and the 35th anniversary of the Court of Audit Aruba

On the 13th of April 2022 two new members of the Board of Court of Audit Aruba were sworn in by the Governor of Aruba, His Excellency Alfonso Boekhoudt. The ceremony took place at Cas Ceremonial where Mrs. Frances X. A. (Xiomara) Croes-Williams and Mr. Christopher F. A. Lake took their oath in the presence of Mr. R. Croes, husband of Mrs. Croes-Williams, the secretary-general respectively the acting chairman of the Court of Audit and the Prime Minister. With the swearing in of the two new members, the Board of the Court of Audit is once again complete.

Mrs. Croes-Williams obtained her master’s degree in Business Economics at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. She is director/partner at the consultancy WG Plus/Williams & Rasmijn Consultants. She previously worked at Dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital, Free Zone Aruba N.V. and Post Office Aruba.

Mr. Lake, obtained his specialization in Controlling at the Nyenrode Business University and the University of Aruba. He is director general at Aruba Stevedoring Company (ASTEC N.V.).

The year 2022 is a special year for the Court of Audit of Aruba with its 35th anniversary. In addition to this, the chairmanship of the CAROSAI will be transferred to Aruba.

Worthy of mention is the fact that on the 13th of April 2022 will be exactly 35 years ago, that the first members of the Board of the Court of Audit Aruba were appointed. The Court of Audit organized an internal reflection meeting to commemorate this anniversary.

The Court of Audit Aruba is legally responsible for investigating the legality and efficiency of the government’s revenues and expenditures. The position of the Court of Audit is anchored in the Constitution and further elaborated in the National Ordinance of the Court of Audit Aruba (LARA). The first paragraph of Article 1 of the LARA provides that financial and material management in the broadest sense, regardless of the form given to this management, is audited by a Court of Audit. The second paragraph states that the Court of Audit is located in Oranjestad. The Court of Audit, as an independent audit institution for Parliament, aims to improve the quality of public administration through its audits.

XII CAROSAI Congress

The XII CAROSAI Congress will take place in Aruba from 15th to 19th of May 2022. CAROSAI is the Caribbean Organisation for Supreme Audit Institutions in the Caribbean region. In total, the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of 23 countries are affiliated with this organisation. The main aim of CAROSAI is to promote cooperation between the SAIs in the Caribbean. It is the first time that the Court of Audit Aruba will hold the presidency of CAROSAI. The theme of the conference is Targeting Superior Audit Impact.
